Alzheimers Treatment
Alzheimers
Treatment can greatly depend on what the
symptoms are and what the person's age is. Early diagnosis is
very important for the correct Alzheimers Treatment. The
biggest problem is that many of the symptoms are identical to
other diseases. Therefore the need to rule out all other
possible diagnoses is vital.
There is absolutely no cure for this
terrible disease, however Alzheimers Treatment can help
sufferers cope with the symptoms they are
experiencing.
There is a range of pharmaceutical
drugs available for Alzheimers Treatment, and these are readily
prescribed by the doctor or specialist treating the Alzheimers
sufferer.
Modern Alzheimers Treatment with the
use of drugs can help sooth agitation, anxiety, depression, and
sleeplessness, and may also help boost participation in daily
activities. Newer Alzheimers Treatment medications are also
becoming available that can improve or preserve thinking
skills, at least temporarily.
There has been some research into
alternative forms of Alzheimers
Treatment.
Some of these
include:
Ginkgo biloba
This is a Chinese medicine that has
been used for centuries. Ginkgo is one of the most popular
herbs in the USA and Europe. The medicine is extracted from
leaves of the ginkgo biloba tree and is believed to improve
brain function. The difficulty of stating absolutes about
ginkgo's effectiveness is that research findings vary in their
results. Some clinical trials do show some small positive
effects in Alzheimers Treatment, other studies no
effect.
Huperzine
This is a chemical that comes from a
Chinese herb called Huperzia serrata. Huperzine, a moss
extract, has been used for many centuries in traditional
Chinese medicine and is used for Alzheimer's disease. Huperzine
A acts like a cholinesterase inhibitor. It increases the amount
of acetylcholine in very much the same way as FDA (Food and
Drug Administration) approved medications such as Aricept. A
number of small studies into the effectiveness of Huperzine
have found improvements have been seen in cognition, memory and
in the behavior of people with Alzheimer's disease. Only small
tests have been done, so again there is only some data to back
up the relevancy of its use in Alzheimers
Treatment.
Vitamin C and Vitamin
E
These are antioxidants that are
believed to have a protective role. They may help prevent free
radical damage to the brain. Normal cell function produces a by
product called a free radical. A number of studies are looking
at the effectiveness of vitamin C and vitamin E but as with all
alternative health methods it takes considerable research to
put something concrete out into the mainstream medical
world.
Turmeric
A recent article I was reading
discussed a possible link with Alzheimers Treatment. It showed
that the low incidence of Alzheimers and the lack of any
Alzheimers
symptoms in India was startling. It
stated that the lowest incidence of Alzheimers in the world was
in many Indian villages. Indians eat lots of curry, which
contains Turmeric and its active ingredient curcumin. Tests on
rats have shown a reduction in brain damage due to the fact
that curcumin is a powerful antioxidant and effective in
inflammatory control.
Maybe we all need to eat out at the
local Indian restaurant more often. What a great reason to
justify eating out - for preventive health and anticipatory
Alzheimers Treatment.
Alzheimers Treatment will
continue to be a topic of discussion everyone looking for the
answer to either prevent or restrict the speed that the disease
progresses at.
