About us
Like most of us, we love living and want to live a long and
happy life, so looking after our health is a big part of
this.
Health - Lifestyles.com
aims to explore some of the many health topics and how we
should handle them.
Having worked in the health profession for over 34 years (feels
like forever!) I have a strong interest in health and all the
alternatives that are around. Some are good and some not so
good, but all are interesting to explore.
We get told we're over the hill after 50, so that's the time to
start to look after our health and improve our lifestyles.
However I realize I should have decided to look after my
physical and mental health better when I was younger. But it is
never too late. With new interests and a desire to do lots of
travel I've now embarked on a new lifestyle to improve my
health and longevity.
With a family health history of heart problems, diabetes, high
cholesterol, arthritis and a touch of Alzheimers I need to look
after my Health - Lifestyle.
Here's a delightful little poem that I think sums up life. It
speaks of growing old in a wonderfully outrageous style, and
was written in 1961 by Jenny Joseph.
Warning - When I Am an Old Woman I
Shall Wear Purple
When I am an old woman, I shall wear
purple
with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit
me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer
gloves
and satin candles, and say we've no money for
butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am
tired
and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm
bells
and run my stick along the public
railings
and make up for the sobriety of my
youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the
rain
and pick the flowers in other people's
gardens
and learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more
fat
and eat three pounds of sausages at a
go
or only bread and pickles for a week
and hoard pens and pencils and beer nuts and things in
boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us
dry
and pay our rent and not swear in the
street
and set a good example for the
children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the
papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little
now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and
surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear
purple.
